Resolutions for a New Year

Are you like many or most of us Christ-followers—know you need to tell your friends and relatives about Jesus, but hesitate to initiate the witness? Maybe some New Year’s resolutions would help. So what if only about 46 per cent of resolution makers stick to their resolutions six months into the year, according to one recent study. Even that success rate is better than nothing—better than not resolving to share the good news with people in our lives who need to hear it. What Dr. John Northcross, a clinical psychologist, discovered was impressive: 46 percent of resolution-makers successfully worked toward their goal, while only 4 percent of those who didn’t make a resolution saw their desired outcome become a reality six months later. So, it’s better to “resolve” than not to resolve. Here are five evangelism resolutions for you to consider:

Christmas Evangelism – Ten Creative Ideas

The Christmas season should be the easiest time of the year for us to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our friends, family, and neighbors. But, all too often, the busyness of the season suppresses our passion for sharing the true meaning of Christmas with people who need to know it and might be hungry to hear it. Even in a post-Christian culture that has secularized Jesus out of Christmas, there are still many creative ways to non-offensively introduce people to the REAL story beneath the commercialized story. Here are ten of them.

How Can I Share My Faith at Work?

Kudos to you for asking this question, for two reasons: First, as a committed follower of Jesus Christ, sharing your faith is an obligation inherent in becoming His disciple. Second, the very fact that you are asking the question is an indication that you want to share your faith in an honorable way that does not offend your employer or co-workers. Bottom line, it largely depends on your employer’s policies and the nature of the kind of work you do. But, there are some other important things to consider.

Sharing Hope with Dad

My husband, Phil, and I serve as missionaries with ABWE in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Our original plans were to return to the U.S. this November for furlough, but due to possible unrest in the country we had moved up our departure date to September. Another major factor in our decision was the well-being of my father, Gerald. His health had been declining for some time, and over the past year and a half he had been struggling with a great deal of pain followed by weight loss. Although we had called home many times asking my parents, “Should we come home now?”, they had always answered, “No, not yet.”

Making Evangelism & Discipleship a Priority in Your Life

Many of us make lists of to-be-done tasks that are important to us, so that we will not forget to do them. No tasks are eternally more important than sharing the gospel with our unsaved friends, family members, and other acquaintances or assisting Christian friends who need to be encouraged and mentored in maturing as followers of Jesus Christ. Our Good Soil Personal E-List and D-List Card was created to help us keep our focus on these two Great Commission tasks.
